BBYC Opening Regatta

Overview

We have a full weekend planned for the BBYC Opening Regatta with numerous on-shore activities scheduled and two days of racing in the outer basin on two separate courses.

Notice of Race - BBYC Opening Regatta 2010

Schedule of Events - BBYC Opening Regatta 2010

Day 1 - Saturday Results

Day 2- Final Results

Racing

We will be utilizing two separate race courses and race committees.  All starts will be in the outer basin (south of Spruce Island) for both courses.  The format will be one day of windward-leeward races and one day of an “around the cans” distance race, except for the J-24 fleet that will be treated to two days of windward-leeward courses.  The hope, weather permitting, is to start 2-3 windward-leeward races per fleet, plus the “around the cans” race to create a 3-4 race series.

Several fleets have already confirmed their plans to attend.  The Premier Class Association (PCA) who have generously designated BBYC Opening Regatta as one of the limited number of races in the PCA Season Series.  The J24 fleet has confirmed their attendance, in what might be our single largest fleet of the regatta.  To date we have had 3 Niagara 26’s indicate their intent to compete, so our hope is that a least a couple more will be in attendance such that they will have their own class. Additionally, we will be starting Handicap racing in at least the “A” and “B” class, with “C” and Cruiser starts if registration permits.

On Saturday results will be available for all classes and awards will be given to the three overall “Top Performers”, as selected by the Race Committee’s.  On Sunday overall prizes will be awarded for the regatta, with a great array of prizes/gifts for the winning yachts.

Social Schedule

A full social schedule has been established to complement the weekend of racing and provide for refreshment and relaxation following the racing.  The weekend will begin with a BBYC club BBQ on Friday evening, open to all members and competitors. To accompany your favorite BBQ Wally Fraser and Jackson Triggs has provided a variety of wine at discounted prices for your drinking pleasure.  After the BBQ Neil and Gord will treat us to an evening of entertainment.

Prior to racing on Saturday coffee and snacks will be available to get everyone “jump-started” for the day.  Following racing we’ll be having a BBYC Deck Party where Jessy’s Pizza are sponsoring the post-race food with a generous supply of their famous pizza’s, the Learn-to-Sail team will be hosting a BBQ, and Goslings are sponsoring a “Rum Squall” to help wash down all the food and assist (enhance) the story telling from the day on the water.  And while you are telling the stories you can enjoy a reprise of Friday night’s entertainment with Neil and Gord entertaining you from the BBYC deck!

On Sunday the day will begin with a Buffet Brunch sponsored by Burger King and hosted by the BBYC Learn-to-Sail volunteer team.  After racing on Sunday the BBYC Deck Party will continue where there will again be a BBQ hosted by the Learn-to-Sail team and lots of cold-ones at the  Garrison Breweries Best Fest!

All and all, a fun filled weekend whether you are racing or race watching.

We want to thank then all and would appreciate if you thank them thru your continuing business with each of them.

And, of course, none of this could happen without the tireless support that I am receiving from my organizing committee that includes Rob Crutcher, Ian Dawson, Jill Newbury, Mark Gwynn, Adam Benson, Karen Fowler, Colleen Alexander, Cindy Roberts, Angela Koppernaes and Eric Shields.

See you on the race course or at the club!
