2022 ARK Regatta July 23-24

UPDATE ON THE HALIFAX WATER SITUATION:  BBYC IS GOING AHEAD WITH ARK

Thursday evening update:

BBYC is going ahead with ARK and Halifax Water is currently still recommending the previously noted actions be taken if sailing.  In consultation with SailNS, we currently believe the situation will be back to normal Friday afternoon.  BBYC has water hoses that will be available to sailors for rinsing when they are done for the day and we will be providing hand sanitizer to all boats.

If you have further questions please do not hesitate to reach out via ark@bbyc.ca.

Previous Updates:

Thursday afternoon:

Halifax Water, in consultation with NS Environment and Climate Change, is recommending the following for indirect contact/sailing activities:

  • If hands or arms come into contact with water, wash with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand rub (ABHR); especially before consuming food.
  • Wash clothes after sailing.
  • Shower after swimming and after sailing.
  • Use clean beach towels to reduce the degree of sand contact (not sure if this is applicable to sailing)
  • Avoid swallowing water, regardless of the water quality;
  • Avoid swimming when you have open sores or wounds; when sailing, cover any open wounds or sores.

If you have further questions do not hesitate to reach out.

Thursday morning: It is likely the situation will be resolved and and sailing in the Harbour can resume starting Friday.  We currently expect to be able to host ARK this weekend as planned and are working to keep everyone updated via communication with SailNS.  Please check here for any additional updates.
