This is one of the entry level courses in the series of Sail Canada courses on sailing keelboats and on cruising. It develops the student’s ability to take command of and operate (with assistance of competent crew) an auxiliary powered sailing vessel, by day, in light to moderate conditions. Basic boating skills are developed under sail and power with a focus on operation of the vessel as both crew and skipper.  - From Sail Canada

This program takes place over 2 weekends in July. Course is taught on a J24 Sailboat. There is a required textbook "Basic Cruising Skills" for this course which can be purchased from us for $25. Successful completion of an exam is required to achieve the Basic Cruising Standard. Participants who are successful in achieving the Basic Cruising Standard will also receive their Pleasure Craft Operators Card. Click here to view full course outline.

Successful completion of Sail Canada Start Keelboat Sailing, or equivalent sailing experience, is a prerequisite for this course. If you have not completed your Start Keeboat Sailing at BBYC, you will be contacted to verify you meet this requirement.
