Halifax’s Bedford Basin will be the venue for the Atlantic Olympic Training Seminar (A-YOTS) July 8th, 9th and ARK Regatta 2010 July 10th, 11th. Bedford Basin Yacht Club is very pleased to host this event for the 39th consecutive year. A committed team of volunteers is working hard to put on a first class regatta. We are grateful to the many sponsors who will be supporting this year’s event and in particular are pleased to welcome The Binnacle and North Sails as Gold Sponsors. As we get closer to the event, a complete list of sponsors will be posted to the BBYC website.
Young sailors from around the Atlantic region will be attending both events. Organizers expect 120 participants for A-YOTS and over 160 sailors for ARK 2010 in at least 6 classes - Optimist, Opti Green, Laser, Laser Radial, 420 and 29er. There is also the possibility of hosting a Masters Class 35-year and older class if enough participants sign up. Clubs represented will likely include Charlottetown Yacht Club, Lunenburg Yacht Club, Chester Yacht Club, the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, Dartmouth Yacht Club, Shearwater Yacht Club, Waegwoltic Club, St. Margaret’s Sailing Club, Northern Yacht Club, Bras d’Or Yacht Club, and the host club - Bedford Basin Yacht Club.
ARK is a wonderful opportunity for young sailors to compete with their counterparts, gaining experience and testing themselves in a major competition. The future of sailing in the region rests with these competitors and a high level of performance is expected. This year ARK will be hosting the NSYA Provincial 18 and Under Sailing Championship.
Online registration is now available for Ark 2010! Please keep in mind that it is very important that all participants 18 and under bring a parent/guardian signature to the event to complete there online registration.
